These images by Krista Wortendyke are part of her (re): media series. The images consider the ways that our perceptions of war are influenced by the mass media. Within the United States, most people have not experienced war firsthand, and so the collective understanding of war is heavily influenced by images seen in newspapers, on the Internet, in magazines, video games, and on television. Increasingly, images saturate our daily lives at an unprecedented scale and rate, and it is for this reason that I am drawn to Wortendyke's work, which points to the influence of viral image circulation on the collective understanding of war.
