Klea McKenna

From Klea McKenna's Slow Burn series. The red/yellow/orange effect in the two pieces on the bottom was created by exposing light sensitive paper to the sky. Each piece of paper was folded up as a paper airplane and flown at Tennessee Point, just up the coast from San Francisco. That area is full of old WWII bunkers that were once used as anti-aircraft lookout points. The folds in McKenna's paper airplanes become a memory marker, not only for the life of these objects and their one and only flight at Tennessee point, but also for past histories of the pacific coast. I saw this work in person at an exhibition that opens today at Smith Andersen North Gallery. You can see more of McKenna's work here.
